Huacachina is a small oasis town located in the Ica region of Peru. Nestled in the desert, Huacachina is surrounded by towering sand dunes and is known for its crystal-clear lagoon. The town is a popular destination for adventure seekers and travelers looking to escape the hustle and bustle of city life. From sandboarding and dune buggy rides to relaxing by the lagoon, there’s something for everyone in Huacachina. Visitors can also take the opportunity to explore the surrounding area, including the nearby wine region and the ancient pre-Columbian city of Nazca, famous for its mysterious lines etched into the desert. Huacachina is truly a unique and unforgettable destination in Peru.
Where I Stayed
Open since 2016, this hostel is clean, fun, and well-located in Huacachina. This location offers you the perfect mix of adrenaline, hiking, and views. Just a 10 minutes walk from the hostel and you will encounter a hidden paradise. Golden sand, a beautiful boulevard, and an endless horizon will accompany you while you spend the day in the Oasis of Huacachina.

My Afternoon
My afternoon was spent dune-buggying around the sand dunes surrounding the Huacachina oasis. Your driver controls the ride, which means that turns and drops are brought to you out of nowhere! After 30 minutes of dune buggying, we got to sandboard down a handful of the sand hills.

We ended with a drive to the lookout where we enjoyed the orange and pink sunset. This afternoon was a highlight of Huacachina stop for me and I’m glad I took the time to explore this area. I would only plan to spend 1 day here as outside of this one fun adventure, there isn’t much more to explore and Peru offers so much elsewhere.
